Community Action - A Heart For Orange

Community Connection

We believe in being a safe place for the whole community and seek to create spaces and activities that encourage this.

Our Kindergarten Hall Project

We are redeveloping our underused Kindergarten Hall for temporary accommodation and are partnering with Veritas House, a local provider of homelessness services who will lease the facility from us. The proposal is in line with the Community Connection pillar of the Orange UC Mission Plan 2019-2025.

Veritas House will provide safe plavce for young people who are unable to rely on family support and are experiencing homelessness or at risk of being homeless, the temporary/transitional accommodation will provide the time, personalised support, mentoring, coaching and access to opportunities needed to assist the young person to lead fulfilling, independent and productive lives.

We also create safe places in our community with the following activities:

Temporary Emergency Accommodation
Providing short term accommodation for people in need.

Community Drop-in Centre
Located in the Church.

Open from 10am -2pm, Mondays and Thursdays.
Call in for a cuppa or a toasted sandwich and a chat.

Hot Meals Outreach
Saturday evenings from 5 - 6pm. A small team of people from the church and across the Orange community serve hot take-away meals from the hall behind Orange Uniting Church on Anson Street. This is to support people who are struggling to provide a hot meal on weekends, especially those who may be homeless or otherwise disadvantaged. This ministry is also supported by other agencies and individuals from across the community.

Mustard Tree Café
The Mustard Tree Cafe is a community outreach mission activity offering friendship and a budget price meal. We open each Wednesday during school term from 12 noon in the Main Hall.
